Phi Beta Kappa

The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the oldest undergraduate honorary society in the United States. Founded in 1766, election to it is considered by many to be the highest honor that can be granted to an undergraduate. Membership is granted to around 1% of college graduates.

Dickinson College’s chapter, the Alpha of Pennsylvania, was chartered in 1887. Up to 10% of the senior class may be eligible for membership, which is based on a students high academic achievement and good moral character. The membership holds elections twice a year, in August and May, and newly-elected members are inducted in a ceremony prior to commencement.

Please consult the Constitution and By-laws for details of the chapter’s policies and procedures.
